Default Flea treatments

Hi! I'm new to the forum. I have black chi puppy, 4 months old. I was wondering when I can start using flea treatments on him and what brand you recommend. I'm sure my vet has a certain brand he sells, but I wanted some objective input on this.

Thanks!

Hi I am also new here and my vet recommends revolution. You can start it now on your pup and it takes care of fleas and heartworms. I use the three pack because it will last me 3 months. Welcome and good luck with your new Chi.

I think that is to small to use flea treatments on. Try dawn soap. This dries out their skin but gets rid of the fleas!

Default flea treatments

yes but then your pup has dry skin which in turn ... your pup will be still scratching, maybe worse than before according to how often you bathe.

Default Fleas

I am a chihuahua breeder and have been for 30+ years. I use Frontline Plus. It is safe on pups 8 weeks old. If you just use soap on your pup that will not stop the fleas. Fleas spend most of their lives off your pet and in your carpets multiplying. When your pet bites a flea, it can get tapeworm. Fleas are nasty. Also, don't apply Frontline for 2 days after bathing your pet. Frontline works by moving through the oils in your dog's hair. Don't bathe your pet until 2 days after applying it also because it will not be spread through the hair enough and you will be removing it before it works. www.YankleeBelleChihuahuas.com

I'm new here and have an 11-week old Chihuahua who came to me infested with fleas a few days before he was 7 weeks old (his mother had fleas and the lady did nothing to get rid of the fleas). I took my puppy to the vet the day I got him and he got treated with Frontline--they didn't want to use Advantage because of his age and weight (1 pound, 1 ounce). The Frontline did nothing. He was still scratching like crazy 48 hours after getting treated so I gave him a bath with a soapless shampoo and 11 fleas came off of him. Still continued scratching so I tried drowning the fleas--a few more came off the next day and the day after that--another 15. I called the vet and got told to use Dawn to kill the rest. I know I still didn't get them all (had also treated my house and his areas with Adams). Second trip to the vet and he got treated with Advantage and that did the trick.

Surprisingly, no sign of worms or any other health issues related to the fleas. The vet said he's looking very good. And no, the lady who gave him to me is not a breeder--she just happened to have a male and female Chihuahua that weren't fixed.
