i am a dog person and i guess i should say i am a chihuahua person. i love them. have owned them. and think they are the best pet ever. but i see over and over people saying please dont buy from a breeder. every pet you buy from one......a mutt dies.. i dont want mutts to die. .....but i dont want to live without my chihuahua babies either. anyone else have this problem or feel guilty for the dying pets like i do? just know if i brought a mutt home i would not love it the same and long for my chihuahua. i guess i am a horrible person.

If you buy from a certified breeder, that's OK I guess. If you buy a mutt from some guy, that's different.I love Staffs and Newfoundlands. I've also owned a chihuahua before, she was a lovely lil' dog.

I love labs. I have 3. They are sweetest dogs. Mine are so friendly and lovable.

I did not know that...Thats sad....honestly I love mutts because they're very unique and have thier own personality, but if i had to choose a pure breed I'd choose eaither a dalmation or a yellow labador! there just so cute!

Well, I have a great dane. And, he's my heart. I feel the same way. I have tried other breeds. Full and mixed. But, my heart belongs to the dane breed. How I feel re:the shelters and mixed breeds dying. Well, I have adopted 2 cats from the shelter. Best of both worlds. And, I also donate money every month to the shelter and take them supplies. And, I also let any that wants use my dane to do whatever promotions they want. He will be in the Christmas parade this year. Next month, he will be in the ALL FOR YOU magazine. So, I understand what you are saying. You are not a horrible person.

I happen to be a pit bull lover, so the "breeder vs. shelter" discussion comes up a LOT for me. While I DO understand that there are THOUSANDS of this breed across the country in shelters, I also support REPUTABLE and RESPONSIBLE breeders.I believe that if someone's looking for a pup for a specific purpose such as showing or working, then they should look for a breeder. However, if they're looking for nothing more then friendship, companionship, etc... they should DEFINATLEY check their local shelter first.Pure bred dogs can be found in shelters ALL the time, and, unless the dog is going to be for show or work purposes, I don't think there's a point in seeking out a breeder and paying that much money for a pet, when you could adopt a perfectly good pet from a shelter. If that makes any sense.I guess you could say I'm kinda on the fence in this discussion. I'm all for responsible and reputable breeding that is done for the BETTER of the breed. I'm NOT for breeding for profit, or just because you have two pure bred dogs and want puppies. Mentalities like that are what land so many puppies and dogs in shelters to begin with. However, I can also DEFINATLEY see why some people go for breeders. You know not only the background of the dog better then you do when adopting, you can raise the dog how you want, etc... and you can get a great show or working dog. Again, I'm kinda on the fence, and I think it depends mostly on what you're looking for out of the puppy/dog.

i always have at least 3 dogs at a time. i have had almost every kind of dog there is. my baby puppy i have right now is a mix between a Austrailian Shepperd and a Border Collie. She is so cute. But my heart belongs to pit bulls.

I have a germansherd and a rat terrier. I use to only loved labs. Since I have had my dogs, started watching the animal planet channel and learned about other breads. Know I have no clue of what bread I want. The more I learn about the different breads, I have learned that they are all intelligent and love their people, Dogs are like people, they have different personalities. I have came to my conclusion that all dogs if they are loved care for and trained, all they want to do is love you. Its all about the relationship you build the dog.
