I have not rescued a Chi from there, but Im sure alot of the dogs are having the same problem. The lady had 800 dogs all crammed into cages. Im sure they were not properly socialized or given much human interaction. This lady was basically a puppy mill. Puppy mill dogs are often fearful and nervous. The dog is now also in a new environment.. he's been thru alot in the past week or so.Its going to take time, and training to help your dog overcome some of its fears. You can try contacting some rescues that involve themselves with puppy mill rescue to get some advice and support on training and socialization.www.petfinder.com

Did you adopt it from those 700 dogs that were taken from the lady's home? If that's the case, the dog might be frightened because it's been through a traumatic experience. I hate to say it, but most agencys give you a two week period to see if the dog will adjust. If the fear isn't something that you are willing to work without -- or you can't cope, the kindest thing would be to give the dog back to the society. It's not pleasent, but it is an option... and the dog has been through enough without having anymore piled on its little shoulders.I would try to contact your dog's vet or a behavorist if you are willing to work with the little guy. Time does heal some wounds, but your dog might be nervious forever.

I haven't from the THS, but when I rescued my chihuahua, it took awhile for him to adjust. They are slow to trust sometimes. It took 4 months for a good, normal routine to come into play. 4 years later, he's my best bud and it was worth the early struggles. Ask your vet if you're worried and get him out socializing as much as possible. As he gets to trusting you, he'll probably start showing the fearlessness chihuahuas are known for.
