My chihuahua, is sweet and very playfull, she likes running when we take her outside, likes chasing us on the grass and chasing after squirrel, but when she's home, most of the time she's on the couch napping, is there a way I can teach her to play fetch maybe indoors?, or play tug. She's just lazy when she's home but she's very active when outdoors. I guess the other question is, is this normal for her breed?. I'm not being picky, but I just want her to be more active indoors and not sleep most of the time, any help will be great.

This is normal for any dog that does a lot of outdoor activity. This is actually a healthy sign for your dog. It's a sign that your dog is more then likely getting the excersize she needs to be happy and healthy. If you want her to be more active inside, spend less time outdoors with her, and more time indoors. If she spends a lot of time playing outdoors, she'll want to rest when she comes in the house. If she spends a lot of time outdoors, and then you make her be active indoors on TOP of that, you can over work her, and end up making her sick. Cut back on her outdoor time to increase activity indoors. That should do the trick. Don't add too much activity to what she's already doing, to prevent making her sick, etc... Good luck to the both of you!

Absolutely-she should learn to play indoors and it can be done with your help. If she shows no interest in playing indoors with you with her normal toys make some that interest her. Take a clean empty soda bottle and put some of her food or a favorite treat in it and close the cap...my 1 year old Chi loves to play with that. I also made an scarf that he will play tug-of-war with and we play chase all the time when he grabs his favorite toy-a fleece ball I got cheap at the pet store-I will chase him around the house trying to "get" his ball. After she starts to play do things to keep her interest up-they are curious dogs by nature and love to "dig" so maybe try hiding some food in a blanket and let her find it. When you are done playing give her a good belly scratch and a lot of praise. Good luck:>)

Your dog is not a toy. I don't mean to offend by that, but you should let her relax if she wants to. Some dogs just don't want to play all the time. If she only plays outside, bring her outside. Like other people said, you don't want to over work her. Dogs sleep a lot. They are nocturnal, and naturally want to sleep during the day. Many adjust to being awake during the day more, but you can't expect them to only sleep when you want.
