My grandma gave my sister and I a pure breed chihuahua pup a couple days ago. It was the most adorable thing. It was brown and had white paws and white at the tip of it's tail. I was able to keep the puppy in the house for about a day when it was moaning and my mom told my sister and me to return it to my grandma so it can be with its mother for another week. Now my mom is saying that the dog is too much trouble and I can't have it. My dad is completely neutral about this--heck, he probably wants the dog too. The problem is that my mom had bad childhood experiences with dogs when one bit her. No matter how hard I try I can't convince her to let me get the dog back. I am fricken 16 and I am fully capable of taking care of a dog. Does anyone know any good statistics or scientific facts I can use to persuade her? So far, I told her that scientifically, kids under 2 growing up with dogs develop a stronger immunity, and it seems to be working. Any more suggestions?

Having a dog will help you learn to be responsible. You'll feed it, clean up after it, and walk it. You'll sign up for lessons to train your dog to behave and follow commands. A dog is also good for security in the house--homes with dogs are less likely to be robbed. A dog is a great companion and friend to the family. Good luck!

At your age, trying something more mature. Negotiate with them and say something such as if you let me keep it i'll improve my grades and if i don't then you can take it and try and convince them by saying that keeping a dog will prepare for the real world and kids by giving me responsibilities and taking care of it and etc

tell her that a dog would teach you great responsibilty and that you would train it to be the sweetest dog ever. you can also (if your grandma will go along) tell her that your grandma is having trouble taking care of all of them and so you guys just need to take it in for a few days get your mom attached to the dog and she wont want to give it away that is how i got my dog!

Tell your mom that this puppy is your only friend in the whole wide world and if she turns away the puppy it will put you in an emotional hell. You also have a gay friend who wants to come over and can you keep this kid? She can either have the dog or you can spend time with this gay kid and sleep with him over at his little shack once in a while.

First I want to know how old the puppy was when it was taken away from it's Mother? The animal should first be weaned completely before being taken away (a minimum of 8 weeks, but 12 is much better for them). Puppies and kittens are like little babies and need gentle, kind comfort. It is true about the immunity and that allergies are less with children growing up around animals. Perhaps you could get her to bond with the dog, or take it to dog training and she could go with to learn how to train and deal with the dog? Some people will always be afraid of animals. Good Luck and remember that puppy needs lots of good dog food (Natural Balance is one of the best foods out there) and plenty of clean fresh water, as well as a nice soft dog bed to sleep in.
