I have a 4 month old chihuahua. She really hates walking on her leash. I need her to walk on her leash because she is getting a little wild when I take her on walks. She normally follows me around outside but now she wanders off. I tried walking her on a regular collar and a leash, but she always tried to bite her leash. I then tried a harness for her, but she hates to walk with this and she will not move. I try to be firm with her, but I do not want to hurt her by pulling too hard. Does anyone have any sorts of tips for me to train her to walk on a leash?

I am having the same problem. I was told that you need to keep the collar on her until she gets use to that. If you notice that she is paying a lot of attention to the collar (i.e. scratching at it, biting it) then try to distract her. From there when you go on a walk take some treats with you, I take cheese or chicken with me. Put her on the leash and then while you are walking reward her through out the walk every so often give her a treat. I went and every 10 feet i'd give her a piece of the treat, then it went 20 feet, 30 feet and so on. My chihuahua walks just fine with out the leash but like you i want to take her in public place and not be afraid that she will run off. Try the treats and then slowly you will get to the point that you don't need to give her treats anymore.

I wouldn't let her drag the leash because once you hold it, she might not like the feeling. but i would hold the leash, (have some treats, too) walk a few steps in front of her and lure her with treats outowards y. if she takes a step or a few steps, give her treats. i should have mentioned to use treats like those "pup-pperoni" or those big loaf looking things that you cut into pieces yourself. keep them small so she doesn't get full. it's best to practice just at home or on the driveway.you don't need to be firm, because she's a chihuahua and she's just a baby, you wouldn't want her being a skiddish later in life.goodluck
