Default how do you make an older dog like or get use to a puppy??

we have a 8 year old female chihuahua and two other older dogs. and the chihuahua doesnt like either of them and every time they come inside she trys to attack them.3/18/08 we decided to get another chihuahua but its a puppy and were afraid that our older chihuahua will attack the puppy and hurt it. so how do we train the older one to be more calm and nicer around other dogs and especially around the puppy?

You cant really train the dog with something like that. You just have to let the older dog get used to being around other dogs. Maybe you could enroll in in some training classes just so it could get a little more socialized. If that does not work just keep the them separated and introduce them slowly to each other.

I have 2 Rottweiler's. One is 9 months and the other is 7 years old. The 7 year old didn't like the puppy so every time the 7 year old snaped at her or tried to hurt her, we gave her a spakin or popped her and told her she was wrong. Try his im ALMOST sure it will work!

I have 4 dogs now and when I got King last Sept he was 12 weeks old a german shepard black lab mix my 3 older dogs all smaller 2 are jack russell min pin mix ans is a min pin. The min pin Duke is 7 and Rusty the one jack russell min pin is 5 and his sister Musty is 4 and at first they didnt know what to make of him and he was bigger then my Rusty which is the biggest of the 3 little ones didnt like him but Misty & Duke took right to him after a few hours Rusty took to him but still if we had to go to the store we took the puppy with us because I didnt know what my 3 little ones would do if we wasnt home. I just showed my 3 little babies that mommy still loved them and showed all 4 the same amount of attention your female just might fool you and just might take the new puppy in like it was her puppy. Good luck

You are probably not going to like my answer. I had a chihuahua that was so cute as a pup. As it got older, only about 8 months old, she started biting anyone, anytime that someone would visit. She attacked my other dog several times. We finally decided that our other dog was with us first, so we had to find a home for her. She bit the next owners cat, they gave it to a vet. The vet ended up putting her to sleep because even he could not stop her from biting. My daughter in law loves chihuahuas, she has three that are all within a month in age of each other. All three of them are biters. So, this is my personal opinion, Chihuahuas seem to be a one owner dog, liking to be the center of attention and not liking sharing that attention with anyone. I would be leary of bringing that breed in to an already established home with other older pets. Maybe I am totally wrong, but that has been my experience with this breed. I think especially since you already have an older Chihuahua that this might be dangerous. What does your vet think?
